At 14,410 feet(4392m), Mount Rainier 雷尼爾山 is the most prominent peak in the Cascade Range. It dominates the landscape of a large part of western Washington State. The mountain stands nearly three miles higher than the lowlands to the west and one and one-half miles higher than the adjacent mountains. It is an active volcano that last erupted approximately 150 years ago.

Mount Fuji in Japan is Mount Rainier's sister mountain. Visitors from Japan have noted a strong resemblance between the two volcanoes. Mount Rainier is honored to have a contingent of volunteers from Japan come to the park each year for two weeks to work on a project.

On July 29, 2011 after weeks of preparation, our team reached the summit of Mount Rainier at 10am via DC route (Disappointment Cleaver). Wind was gusting at 30km/h but it was an epic day on the mountain!

....菜菜的问一句,会有高原反应吗?

Yes but it depends on the person and it has nothing to do with your age and physical strength. There was a few times around 3500m I felt like throwing up but the key is to have water and food every single hour and this's a MUST! Keep yourself hydrated and well fed.

Most of the climbers were doing fine but they all had minor issue. Most common one is stomach ache coz they rushed themselves to the summit without regulating their breathing!

After the BIG breakfast and we headed back to the house and pulled out all our gears on the lawn for inspection. Dan, Patch and Bill gone thru all our gears and determined what's needed to purchase/rent. I had majority of the gears except water purification tablets and several slings/cords. Told to rent the Plastic Mountaineering Boots  :sm5f: since we are on the mountains for five straight days and the regular leather/suede boots just wouldn't cut it! Why? Regular boots will get wet and you can't remove the liner to dry inside your sleeping bag at nite. Depends on the current mountain temperature, your boots might get freeze up overnite!

We headed back to Seattle and our first stop was Second Ascent for the boots rental. My regular size is 8.5 and told to get 9.5 instead. Totally one size up!!! Second most important thing was to get a pair of socks liner! I picked up a pair from SmartWool that made with Merino Wool. It was the best decision I'd ever made! I had no blister what so ever during the entire trip and thanks for the professional advice from the sales staffs at Second Ascent.

Next stop is REI Flag Ship store in Seattle. More shopping for all the ladies. More freeze dried foods and snacks. More last minutes shopping for clothing. It was 7pm by the time we finished and headed toward the German Pub for dinner and drinks.

Day 2 Olympia - Ashford - Paradise

Met up at 9ish and headed toward Mount Rainier's Paradise. Stopped at local supermarket for branch, foods and last minute java rush! Yesterday's nice weather had turned worst overnite! Cloudy with showers in the forecast! Darn! We stopped at Ashford and visited  RMI (Rainier Mountaineering, Inc.). Entered the park thru Nisqually and paid $15 (per car) entry fee!

By the time we reached Paradise park lot, the showers had turned to rain! Not good at all! We're debating if we should retreated back to Cougar Rock camp site for the night and wait for better weather the next day. In the meantime Bill and Patch went ahead and registered us with the Climbing Pass $43 per person.
